Search Engine Optimization..
Your Success or Failure
In order for your business to grow and prosper, you need to have a website that will be found by prospective customers. The need to beat your competition will ultimately be your businesses success or failure and it’s directly linked to search engine optimization.
The biggest concern of all webmasters is traffic. How do you get traffic to your website. Without traffic, you will not get more customers and won’t make more money. The goal is to get your website ranked on the first page of the search engines. Google is the largest of all the search engines, and comprises about 80% of all search traffic. Therefore, to get on the first page of Google is not easy, and depending on the keyword, can be down right difficult.
What are keywords and why are them important?
Keywords are the word or phrase (called long tail keywords) that someone types into the search box. If your site contains those words or phrases, you could potentially be found. However, the difficulty of ranking for that keyword is based on the number of competing pages for that exact term, the value of that term is based on monthly searches (how many could potentially see your webpage) and the amount of money that advertisers will spend to get top placement for their ad.
How do you determine the best keywords?
It takes time, a lot or research, and software tools to narrow down the best keyword terms especially in a very competitve market. Google’s keyword tool, which is free, is a starting point. You get general information, but the data is somewhat unreliable.
You will also need to evaluate your competition, their keywords, the number of links, internally and their backlinks and whether you feel that you can outrank them. The success of your website will depend on the keywords that you select and optimizting your website using best SEO principles.
On Page Optimization
When developing the website, it is important to layout exactly the keyword terms that you will be focusing on. You should only have one main keyword with other related keywords per page. Additionally, the title tags, meta descriptions, and keywords per page needs to be highly relevant to the website. There are other on page factors such as internal linking, external linking, H1 tags and keyword density to name a few. All of these factors will improve your search engine optimization, but on page optimization is only 20% that Google places for ranking
How to Get Indexed
Once your website is optimized, the website should be manually submitted to the search engines for indexing. This will alert them to your site and you’ll get indexed more quickly. Other methods include linking to high PR (Page Ranted) sites, and pinging your pages to the RSS Directories
What is page rank and why is it important?
There are two factors involving page rank. One is where you site on the search page and two, the value of the website in the search engines eyes. Think of page rank like a vote, the more votes you have, the greater the page rank. As you create and build out your linking to your website, the value of the links (the PR of the sites linking to yours) and the number of links will play a crutial role in your SEO and ultimately where you will sit on the search page.
It’s all about Linking
Ultimately, your website getting “found” in the search engines is all about your backlinking strategy. There are many methods to backlinking. Quantity and quality links is what a good internet marketing consultant will provide. Having a diverse strategy, will improve your search engine optimization of your website, and thus will get you ranked higher on the search page.
